REVISITING OLD WORK

As I push myself forward, experimenting with materials and concepts, I find myself revisiting old ideas I had during my degree, 20 years ago. It feels like I am coming full circle and the same feelings come to the forefront. The importance of family, farming, community, connection and tradition.

I found these little pieces in my cupboard while looking for inspiration. They are old photographs transferred onto fabric. I added pieces of perspex with welsh icons scratched into them. This was an attempt (a failed attempt in my opinion) to show a juxtaposition of my Wales, and the iconic Wales from an external perspective. I have placed Prince Charles over a picture of my Dad in front of his home farm, a picture of a welsh lady placed upon me and my brothers, 2 love spoons placed over an image of my parents at a wedding, and Shirley Bassey placed over my uncle shearing.

I still want to work with print, layering, fabric, alternative materials and embroidery. Finding these pieces was a confirmation that this way of working is authentic to me.

My old collection of work:

Old work
My Dad in front of Brynmeurig, his home farm with an image of Prince Charles placed over him.

old work
Me and my brothers in front of the Landrover, with an image of Welsh ladies placed over us.

old work
My Uncle Rich shearing, with an image of Shirley Bassey placed over him.

old work
My parents at a wedding, with 2 love spoons placed over them.
